10 Things to See & Do in Cologne, Germany

Place to Stay: Meininger Hostel. This hostel was very clean and had a good amount of space in every room. The staff was extremely helpful and told us many different places to eat and visit. The showers and bathrooms were very clean. It was very close to many restaurants and the shopping area. We were able to walk everywhere with no problem. We had an awesome experience at this hostel.

Places to Visit & Things to Do:

1. The Cathedral (DOM): This cathedral is absolutely beautiful on the inside and out. It is said to be the largest cathedral in Europe. Definitely climb to the top of the tower and you can see the entire city. It is absolutely gorgeous.

2. Take a Stroll along the River: The river is beautiful and there are many different things to see on both sides of the river. It is a nice calming walk to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

3. Climb to the Top of the Cathedral: As I mentioned before, for a small price you can climb 386 steps to the top of the cathedral for a beautiful view of the city. It is a long climb but definitely worth it. Below are some pictures from the top of the tower.

4. Walk across the Bridge: This is the lock bridge and, in my opinion, is much more beautiful than the love lock bridge in paris. Take your best friend or significant other and add your lock to the bridge, or just walk along and admire the beauty of it!

5. Cross the Bridge for a beautiful sunset view. This is definitely worth doing. Go across the bridge to watch the sunset over the cathedral. This view is breathtaking and not to be missed!

6. Go through the shopping area! Cologne is known for it's shopping and you definitely don't want to miss it! There are many different stores & it is a fun atmosphere to shop in.

7. Go to the local Pubs: If you stay at the Meininger hostel, the map they give you has many different pubs to go visit. They are near the old town and worth a visit!

8. Visit the Chocolate Museum: Learn about the history of chocolate and get to sample a few! This museum is right on the river!

9. Take a Stroll through the park: The park is just behind the Meininger hostel and a nice place to have a picnic or take a stroll. Ask the staff where it is and head there for a nice picnic!

10. GO TO CARNIVAL! If you can make it there during carnival in March, it is totally worth it! Make sure to wear a costume because you will stick out like a soar thumb if you don't! They go more crazy than Americans on Halloween!!! Have some fun & don't lose your friends!

Overall, Cologne is a lively town to shop in and see many different things. It is a fun place to stay and sip on a beer with the locals!
